    • When will your passport expire? Most countries require you to have a minimum of three months validity remaining, and many require that you have at least six months validity.

  • Check your passport's condition.

    • Is your passport's cover loose? Are any pages torn? A damaged passport is not valid for travel.

  • Check if you have blank visa pages.

    • You'll need at least one blank passport page marked "visas" for every country you'll visit. If you need a visa, you'll need at least two completely blank pages.

  • Make a copy of your passport.

    • If your passport is lost or stolen, having a copy will make it easier to get a replacement. Take one copy with you when you travel, and leave another at home with someone you trust.

  • Research health concerns for your destination.

    • Find out if you need any vaccines for your trip and review a "healthy traveler" packing list at

  • Register your trip with the US State Department.
